A full weekend of fun and memories will be on the agenda during V.C.I. Celebration 2010.
Remember the old and celebrate the new Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute July 1, 2 and 3, at the high school, 5814 Highway 34, Vankleek Hill.
A committee comprised of parents and teachers is organizing the activities in order to say adieu to the old building, which dates back to 1954, and to toast the construction of the new facilities.
There will be a golf tournament, wine and cheese, a silent auction, dinner/dance and much more. Go to vci.ucdsb.on.ca for more information. Registration closes April 30.
Memorabilia is being sought for displays that will be featured during the weekend. Contact Debbie Hall at 613-678-2665 or deb_in_vkh@yahoo.ca.
Activities begin following the Canada Day festivities.
On July 2, a golf tournament will be held at La Cité Golf Course in Hawkesbury. The program also includes memorabilia displays, a silent auction and a wine and cheese party at the school.
The July 3 agenda features a breakfast, displays, a silent auction, activities for all ages, and a dinner.
The new location, being erected immediately west of the present facilities, will open early next year. Instead of opening in September 2011 as originally scheduled, students will move into the new school at the start of the second semester next year, in February 2011.
The new school is 5,532 square meters in size and will accommodate 357 grades 7 to 12 students in a single-storey structure. It will feature an enhanced music room attached to the stage in the cafetorium. Also, the cafetorium will be large enough to accommodate all students at once. Robert J. Bourgon and Associates Ltd. of Cornwall has been awarded a $13.1 million contract to build the new high school and to demolish the existing school.
